I had some trouble figuring out exactly what he's holding in his left hand. In the end it was between either a burger (the part I painted white could have been a big piece of floppy lettuce) or a loaf of bread/cake on a cloth on a silver plate. I went with the last one in the end but it was close.

I'm seriously wondering what he's tryng to attract with that cake/burger to have a clever in his back !
ReplyDeleteSuperb painting and the cake is especially good looking !
Thanks. He looks like he's going around collecting children's heads.
DeleteUnusually sinister for a Citadel model!
A head collector?
ReplyDeleteThe Head Collector is certainly an appropriate name for him. He seems more like a dark fairy tale character than a wizard from Warhammer.
DeleteFun figure. I think it's a burger with sesame seeds on the bun but the pie looks good too. He is a very dark chap isn't he, holding out treats, with a bag of them and with a teddy to tempt who? He even looks as though he is looking down at a person of diminutive stature...
ReplyDeleteGood lord now I'm seeing it too oO
Deletethe cake now looks like a bun on a patty and the severed heads look suddenly small and not like adult's... the bright colours and the neat blue robe of his suddenly offer a sordid contrast with his intent...
oh and now I'm seeing lollypops and candy sticks in his pouch...
DeleteIt looks like a burger to me now too! Everyone who's seen it in person also thinks it probably looks like a burger, but at the time when I was painting him burgers just didn't seem like the sort of thing a wizard would be holding. I'll probably leave it as a cake or pie on a plate anyway though.
DeleteIt's not the burger JB is seeing it is quite how dark this mini is..not in a bad way mind, but this guy has a thing for chopping off kids heads, burgers, lollipops, teddy bears. Like the child catcher on steroids. Or the male counterpart to the witch in Hansel and Gretel.
DeleteIt looks like a pie the way you have painted it though.
What a sinister fellow.
ReplyDeleteI see a meat pie, haha.
Are those "all day sucker" lollipops in his bag? (nearest the severed heads)
What a weirdo!
Lovely paint job.
It's sort of hard to tell what's in his bag. In the end I thought I'd paint some of it colourfully so that it could be fruit or sweets, and then do a couple of different shades of browns for the other objects. I imagined the brown shades would be chunks of bread or cheese.
DeleteThanks!
A bizarre and compelling model with a beautiful paint job.
ReplyDeleteGreat work.
Thank you for the kind words. It's definitely an interesting model to paint.
DeleteI am pretty sure I have seen this variant somewhere before (CCM?) but this is first time I have seen it painted. Great results! Hopefully, you will be sharing more unusual models like this in future as its nice to see the rarer stuff actually getting painted up rather than lanquishing in collections for all time.
ReplyDeleteThanks very much for your comments about the painting results. I haven't been able to find this particular wizard anywhere online but would be really interested to see any references about it at all.
DeleteMost of the images of wizards on the CCM Wiki page seem to be attributed to Steve, maybe he knows something about it.

DeleteI have found another painted version. Only this one has been interpreted as a hamburger.
Thanks for the link. Now I've seen it painted differently I'm pretty certain it's supposed to be a hamburger.
DeleteMaybe when I paint the regiment I can alternate between burgers, pies and cakes ;)
Very interesting post. Thanks for sharing it! It is always a joy to learn something that I didn't know. I have you to thank for teaching me something new.
